It happened around noon on Monday at the Holy Child Jesus Church in Richmond Hill.
“The baby was placed in the nativity scene, near the altar” said Father Christopher Heanue.
The baby was found by a custodian with his umbilical chord still attached after following the sound of crying to the nativity scene which was being set up for the holiday season.
The newborn baby boy was taken to Jamaica hospital where he is doing well. He is just over 5 pounds.
By law a church is considered a safe place for drop offs, but the child is supposed to be left to a person, not left unattended.
