Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals She Separated From Will Smith In 2016, Before The Slap
In a shocking turn of events, it’s been confirmed that Jada Pinkett Smith and her husband Will Smith have actually been separated since 2016.
The revelation came in a clip from an interview she did with Hoda Kotb during a NBC News primetime special. In the clip, she said that her and Will have been living “completely separate lives” She went on to say she never went public with the news because they were both “not ready yet”.

We’re “still trying to figure out between the two of us, how to be in partnership,” Pinkett Smith said.
Married since 1997, the Jada said the couple is not legally divorced at this time, and their marriage has received criticism while they’ve been separated.
It was revealed in July of 2020 that Jada Pinkett Smith was seeing singer August Alsina, which she herself confirmed on an episode of her show “Red Table Talk.”
“I got into an entanglement with August,” she said, saying that her and Will “were going through a very difficult time” at the time.
Then Chris Rock stepped into the picture (Slap!).
In case you were living under a rocker, in 2022 during the Academy Awards, Will Smith walked up on stage and slapped Chris Rock after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s baldness. It was later revealed she has alopecia, causing patches of baldness. She opted to shave her head because of minor patches of thinness.
In an interview with People Magazine, Jada commented on the infamous slap, saying she thought it was a joke at first.

“I thought, ‘This is a skit.’ I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him, … It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”
According to Jada, she asked will if he was okay as soon as they were alone together.
She went on to say the marriage fell apart for a number of reasons.
“I think by the time we got to 2016, we we both just exhausted with trying,” Jada said. “I think we were both kind of still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
She closed by saying she made a promise to herself that she’d never divorce Will, and she can’t bring herself to break that promise.
