Gordon Ramsay Opens Up About The Death Of His Son, Rocky, in 2016

“There’s no book that guides you through that loss, and so losing Rocky was really tough,” Ramsay, 56, told People in a new exclusive interview. “Watching the trauma unfold, it’s this life-changing moment.”

In 2016 Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana experienced a tragedy no parent should ever have to face – the death of their unborn son. Tana, who is now 49, suffered a miscarriage after carrying their son Rocky for 5 months. The couple hasn’t commented until now, and what they had to say had us in tears.

Gordon and Tana had four children at the time, Megan who is 25, Jack and Holly who are wins and both 23, and their daughter Matilda who is 21. In 2019, three years after the death of rocky, the celebrity couple has welcomed their fifth child – Oscar.

The loss was hard but in the end it only brought the family closer together, Ramsay said. “We wouldn’t have had Oscar had we not lost Rocky. There was no substitute – far from it – but it brought us a bond that you’d never experience in a normal situation.”

Tana and Gordon married in 1996. At the time she was a schoolteacher, but now is a published author and television personality.

In June, Tana paid tribute to the late Rocky in a heartwarming Instagram post. “A happy picture taken of us celebrating Meghan’s 18th, I was just under 20 weeks pregnant.

“Although it’s 7 years today, it still feels like yesterday,” she said. “We all miss you everyday. We love you Rocky, forever in our hearts. I couldn’t do this without my family, you are all everything to me.”

Gordon Ramsay went on to praise Tana’s resilience in the interview with People.

“That’s the power of Tana,” he said. “Just watching the way that she dealt with it – and opened up with other friends and women in close proximity that could give advice – she was incredible straight after that.”

He went on to say, “There’s a lot of things that Tana’s done, that we wouldn’t be here today without that strength.”

Ramsay also said that Oscar, their youngest, is the “only hope” of having another chef in the family.

“They needed to find their passion, and I couldn’t be prouder knowing that they have… I suppose my son Oscar is my last hope of having a chef in the family. I’ve started putting him to bed with a f***ing whisk and a ladle.”
