10-Day Old Baby Trapped In Israeli Safe House For 9 Hours

As the conflict in Israel rages on, stories are surfacing of young children caught in the conflict in Israel. According to a report released by The Independent, a 10-day-old baby who was trapped in a safehouse with his parents for 9 hours while Hamas stormed the area. The baby is of British-Israeli descent.

The family lived in Nirim, a town 1.5 miles from the Israeli-Gaza border. They took cover in the shelter after hearing rocket fire on Saturday.

Uriel Labban and his wife Amee hid with their baby son Kai. Demorah Mintz was also there, Amee’s sister. According to Russel Langer, Uriel’s cousin, they we’re to terrified to leave while they heard gunfire outside.

They weren’t the only ones who hid – thousands of people in Israel and Gaza took shelter as Hamas and Israeli soldiers exchanged bombs and gunfire.

Russel said his family lived near the Gaza border, and was worried for their lives after seeing reports of missile strikes by Hamas. It wasn’t long before this fear was confirmed – he soon received a text message, ““We are stuck. They came in and burnt our house.”

As the family sit trapped in the safe room, Hamas militants swarmed their town and it wasn’t long before they set fire to the house.

“They were inside the safe room, the fire was stopped from spreading but the room did fill up with smoke, and they had to hold the baby up to the window to ensure that he was able to breathe.

“All they could do at that point in time was weighed in the hope that they would be rescued and not captured,” Langer said.

When the dust settled, the damage was inconceivable. The house, the cars outside, all burnt to ashes.

“Baby Kai appears to be okay but they will never be able to return to their home again, as there’s nothing left to come back to,” Russel Langer said.

Mr Langer said the family is now in the hospital after being rescued by the Israeli Defense Force (IDF).

“The immediate danger is over, but they’re still recovering. It’s been quite a traumatic experience for him.”
